My Go-To Summer Makeup Routine

Whether it be the warmer weather or the less busy social calendar, my makeup routine always changes during the summertime. I stick to as few products as possible and really only put makeup one when I'm going somewhere and even then I usually only spend a maximum of 5 minutes on my makeup.

Granted, my skin always clears up in the summertime so I don't really need any makeup to cover up any major blemishes but occasionally I'll have small breakouts that I'll quickly cover up on my way out the door. I tend to stray away from heavy liquid foundations and even BB cream and I usually do away with eyeliner and anything that takes a lot of focus to apply evenly.

After washing my face & going through my normal skincare routine (which you can read about HERE), the first product I use is my Younique Pressed Powder Foundation and I dust this all over my face using a kabuki brush. The compact comes with a sponge applicator to apply the foundation with but I've found that using a kabuki brush doesn't make the application look cakey and doesn't crease in various areas of my face.

After I apply my powder foundation I'll dust some Maybelline Fit Me! matte powder all over my face using one of my Real Techniques brushes. On some days I'll even skip my powder foundation and just apply my matte powder because it works to keep my face from becoming super oily and shiny midway through the day.

The next product I use is my Younqiue Beachfront Bronzer. This is the newest addition to my makeup collection but I'm obsessed with it! The way I apply this is by making a fish face and using a contour brush to dust the bronzer into the areas of my face that are sucked in while making the fish face. I'll also dust this down onto my neck and around my chin, too.

After I finished with my face makeup I'll apply a couple coats of my Merle Norman Wicked Lash mascara to my top and bottom lashes. I only have the trial size of this mascara but I love it! Every time I wear this mascara I get compliments on how nice my eye makeup looks. Plus, if I apply it really close to the root of the lashes, it looks like I applied eyeliner!

As for my lips, somedays I'll just wear plain old chapstick but other days I'll either wear my Estee Lauder lipstick or my Burts Bees lipstick. The Burts Bees lipstick is a bit of a darker shade so I tend to wear this one if I'm going out to shoot outfits for the blog or going out to dinner with friends or family. My Estee Lauder lipstick is a very natural shade and is more of my everyday go-to lipstick.

I've linked all of the products I mentioned at the end of this post in case you're curious or want to try out some of these products yourself!

Ballcaps & Ball Fields

While it may not seem like it based on some of the outfits I share here on Northern Prepster, I am a very casual person and I am looking to be the most comfortable with what I wear. This outfit is what I would consider to one of my go-to summer styles; comfy & casual shorts, a super simple top, comfy shoes & of course, a baseball cap.

Today's post is in collaboration with Molly who blogs over at Molly Preps. Molly reached out to me a few weeks ago about a potential collaboration & I was so excited to get to work with another blogger! After a bit of back and forth and trying to come up with an idea for a post to share we landed on the idea of sharing how we style a ball cap. I'll include a photo of Molly's outfit at the end of this post for you to have a sneak peek at how she styled her ball cap!

I'm super excited to share these photos with you all! My dad & I got up early this morning to head into downtown Columbus to shoot this outfit outside of Huntington Park which is where our baseball team, the Columbus Clippers play. Huntington Park is located in the Arena District in downtown Columbus and is such a cool place to walk around when exploring the city.

For my outfit I wore a pair of jean shorts that I paired with my favorite baseball tee, my go-to slip-on sneakers & my favorite navy ball cap from vineyard vines. As always, I'll include links to everything I'm wearing (or similar items) at the end of this post!

Lilly Pulitzer Columbus

Happy Wednesday and hooray for being halfway through the week & a very happy birthday to my friend & long-time reader of Northern Prepster, Meredith!

This past Sunday my mom and I headed out to visit the new Lilly Pulitzer store that just opened up in Columbus! I am so beyond excited to have a local Lilly store to shop at now (although I don't think my wallet feels the same)! The store is located out at Easton Town Center which is a big shopping center here in Columbus. The Lilly store also happens to be located right next to the Vineyard Vines store which is just, wow.

Most times when I visit a Lilly store I don't have anything in particular that I'm looking for but this trip I went in really hoping to walk out with a pair of the pop-up shop Lobstah Roll printed leggings. I checked online before we left and it said they didn't have any in stock but I still wanted to go out to the store to try on another pair so that I knew which size to order. But, when we got out to the store, I asked one of the sales associates if they happened to have any smalls in the back & they did!

As if my morning couldn't get any better after finding out they had my size in the leggings, the cashier that checked me out is a follower of Northern Prepster! I freaked out because I had never met a reader/follower before! It blows my mind that people in my own city (aside from my friends & family) follow my blog!

I tried on a couple of pieces because my mom and I did have other plans and errands to run that day so sadly, I couldn't try on everything in the store (because we all know I totally would have). I did end up purchasing the shift dress pictured below which I'm planning to wear for one of the rounds of sorority recruitment in August! Be on the lookout for an outfit post featuring that shift dress here in the next few weeks! I've also linked each Lilly piece I tried on in case you'd like to check them out for yourself! Along with the photos of the pieces I tried on, I included a snap of the outfit I wore to visit the Lilly store and some other snaps of the store!

Is there a Lilly store near where you live?

Sailboat Sweater

The weather here in Ohio has cooled down a bit in the last few days to the point where I find it a little chilly outside. While normally I would be begging for the warmth to come back, it's been so hot recently that this little cool down isn't so bad.

I took this chillier weather as an opportunity to wear one of my favorite lightweight sweaters from J.Crew! I paired this super soft & comfy sailboat sweater with my favorite seersucker shorts, which are also from J.Crew, and added my favorite raspberry colored Jack Rogers for a pop of color. My purse is from  Moscato & Monograms and if you use the code "NORTHPREPSTER" you can get 20% off your order!

Has the weather been chilly where you live recently?
